Think of these numbers as a general roadmap rather than a set-in-stone quote. Depending on what your amp needs, final costs can actually end up lower or maybe higher! These starting points are just here to give you a clear, honest idea of what typical repairs usually cost.

A few quick things to keep in mind:

  • Parts are separate: All replacement components (tubes, caps, transformers, etc.) are billed individually so you only pay for what your amp actually needs.
  • No Fix, No Fee: If I dig in and can’t fix your amp, you don’t owe me a dime. Simple as that.

Bench & Diagnostic Policy

Includes chassis pull, high-voltage safety check, signal tracing, and an itemized repair estimate before any work begins. Diagnostic fees are applied directly toward labor costs when repairs are authorized.

Service Description Starting Rate
Maintenance General clean and tune-up, potentiometer/jack/socket cleaning, bias check, visual inspection, and high-power burn testing. $60 and up
Retube & Precision Bias Tube complement replacement, power tube grid bias optimization, and burn-in test. (Tubes billed separately) $90 and up
Cap Job Safe high-voltage discharge, main electrolytic filter capacitor replacement, ESR testing, and power supply reforming. $120 and up
Component Repair Replacement of failed screen grid resistors, shorted rectifiers, burned sockets, or individual signal circuit failures. $80 and up
Major Repair Power or Output transformer replacement, full power stage rebuilds, lead routing, safety ground audit, and load testing. $150 and up

Standard Bench Time

Non-standard repairs, diagnostic troubleshooting beyond initial estimate, or custom circuit work billed at standard shop rates.

Parts & Components

Tubes, filter capacitors, transformers, and replacement hardware are billed separately from labor unless noted.

Vintage & Hand-Wired

Pre-1980 and hand-wired point-to-point chassis requiring lead dress restoration or fragile wire replacement subject to bench evaluation.
